Project Framework
Since September 2008, the Philipps-University Marburg and the University of Augsburg are carrying out a consulting and
networking project on “The Contribution of Civil Society and Victim Participation in Transitional Justice Processes”.
The overall aim of the project is to strengthen the capacities for civil conflict management in Cambodia and Uganda with
a focus on victim participation in the respective transitional justice process. Further objectives are:
- to raise awareness for the possibilities of victim participation in Transitional Justice processes in general and court activities in particular,
- to provide a forum for discussion, networking and exchange of experience for all relevant actors about the conditions of victims' participation
within civil conflict management,
- to bring together actors from different countries/contexts (Uganda/Cambodia) to exchange lessons learned, achievements and challenges.
Originally, the project aimed to inspire a dialogue on victim participation between three groups:
- NGOs in the field of Transitional Justice, Civilian Conflict Management, Law Development in Uganda as well as Cambodia
- Court representatives of the ICC and ECCC
- (International) funders in the field of Transitional Justice, Civilian Conflict Management, Law Development which are active in Uganda as well as Cambodia
